1984 – Singer Vince Neil from Motley Crue was involved in a car accident in Redondo Beach, California, which killed Nick Dingley from Hanoi Rocks and injured two other passengers.

1985 – Stefan Edberg wins the Australian Open Men’s Singles Tennis title, beating Mats Wilander 6-3 6-3 6-3.

1987 – US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev sign an historic agreement to reduce the size of their nuclear arsenals. On the same day, Palestinians begin the “intifada” (uprising) against Israel.
